The prep work before you open up shop is more time-consuming. You need merchandise to sell, photos and descriptions to post, a name for your shop and a business plan to help you succeed. Once that’s done, you’ll still need to find customers. Depending on what you’re selling, that could take weeks, which is why you should expect the overall time for this gig to be slow.
Better yet, you can even upload your own book to one of the world’s largest book sellers: Amazon. With Amazon self-publishing, you set the price, retain the rights to your book, and get access to Amazon’s massive audience. For every sale, you keep 70% with Amazon taking the remainder as a fee. If you want to get started, check out Leslie Samuel's great guide to selling eBooks online or follow Tara Gentile on CreativeLive as she shows you how to use your existing body of work to write an eBook within the next week. Who knows, you might just write one of the best business books of this year!
Ever since the idea of online auctions came into existence, the online selling market has been on the rise. Many are interested, but don’t know how to get started. There are still all kinds of ways to make money by selling online, whether you’re selling what you already have or buying and selling like a store. Before we get started, here are a few general tips when selling anything online:
I almost didn't list Swagbucks here because, while it's a great rewards site, they list in their terms that you can't expect for up to 10 days after you cash out. However, it's still an option to earn fast cash because some people report getting paid much faster than this. You can redeem you SB (Swagbucks) for Amazon codes, Paypal cash, and gift cards to popular merchandisers among other things. These points build up quickly thanks the the large number of things you can do on the site to earn. I've used this site and been paid many times.
A site called User Testing will actually pay you a fee to evaluate websites. It typically pays you $10 for each video that you review – which typically takes about 20 minutes. If the work is there, and you are particularly good at it, you could earn up to $30 per hour. That’s a pretty solid pay rate for a work-at-home job. You wouldn’t have to work a whole lot of hours to generate a decent part-time monthly income.
If you don’t mind doing other people’s chores, then TaskRabbit is a great option for making money online. Earn extra income by walking your neighbor’s dog or mowing Mr. Smith’s lawn. It might seem like not the most lucrative option, but the top taskers reportedly earn as much as $7000 a month, making this a full-time way to make money online for some.
The contents of this article are not in any way revolutionary. Given enough time (this actually took much longer than I expected), you could easily compile a similar list. The concept of making money online is so broad, however, that I wanted a resource that captures most aspects of it. Take from it whatever you’d like, or simply bookmark it for future reference.
Salvage and resell. Do you love antiques or have a knack for finding valuables at flea markets or yard sales? If you do, it might be time to consider salvaging items for resale – or even scouting out antiques to sell for a profit. While you’ll need to spend quite a bit of time searching for prospects and spend some money buying upfront, you could easily turn a profit if you know what you’re doing.
20. Etsy – If you like to create arts and crafts, you can sell them on Etsy. It’s completely free to open an Etsy store. You simply sign up, post pictures of your creations and starting selling. You can choose your payment option, but PayPal is generally the easiest. Etsy makes it easy to sell and keep track of your inventory. There is a small listing fee and they take 3.5% of every sale you make.
5. Fiverr – Fiverr is a great place to make a few bucks or spend a few bucks if you need some of the services people offer. Basically, everything is $5. You either pay $5 or charge $5. They call them “gigs.” You can offer your services however you choose. If you sell art and you’re fine selling pieces for $5 each, that’s a gig. If you’re a graphic designer and you want to offer your services for $10/hour, simply offer a 30 minute gig. If they need two hours of graphic design, they pay you $20, or $10/hour by buying four gigs.
Choose your niche and check for demand: The golden course combination is when you can find an in-demand niche that aligns with your skills and unique experiences. A great way to do this is to use Google Trends and Google’s Keyword Planner to look for average monthly search volume for keywords related to your proposed course content. Are people actively looking for high-quality information about this subject? Of course, if you’re already creating content for a blog, coaching service, or a site like Medium, you can test demand this way for free just like Bryan did.
Work in grocery delivery. Instacart is a company that will pay you to pick up grocery store orders in your spare time. The entire purchase and order takes place through the Instacart app, making it easy for you to pick up the groceries your customers wants and get paid. Like other food delivery jobs on this list, Instacart lets you earn a per-trip rate plus tips. Shipt is another service that will pay you to shop for groceries and deliver them to consumers in your area, so make sure to see if they’re available where you live.
Build your audience on a course community: If you’re just getting started building an audience for yourself and want to leverage communities already actively looking for content you can choose to host and sell your online course on a site like Skillshare or Udemy. These are easy, cost-effective ways to build an audience and test your niche to see if there’s demand for it.
Get samples. When you first start out as a freelance writer, it can be hard to get work without any published samples. However, it is possible to get quality samples if you are willing to do some writing for free. First, you can publish content on your own blog or website. Also, you can write guest posts for someone else’s blog. Finally, you can write blog posts for free in exchange for a byline.
There’s always a learning curve to any of the different ways to make money online. So even with the legitimate training courses out there, don’t expect to be a master or pro right away. It’s going to take a little bit of experience and learning what works, or what doesn’t work, before you can expect to earn a high amount of income from your online marketing methods.
Under writing reviews, don’t forget about doing video reviews with Expo TV! You get points for the video reviews you do. For about ever 11 video reviews I do I get enough points for $30 in Amazon (or VISA) gift cards! I love doing video reviews of the things I already own and then getting paid for them. My reviews are usually just 2-3 minutes saying a few things I like about the product, what I use it for, and anything I don’t like about the product. It really is an awesome site. I wouldn’t save up your points to buy items. It’s much better to get the Amazon or Visa gift cards.
Lending Club (U.S. Residents Only) – I’ve been talking about this site ever since I started this blog, so there’s no reason to stop now. Lending Club is an important part of my passive income strategy. I discuss it in all of my income reports, so you can read those for more detail. As I’ve said several times, I believe this is my only true source of passive income.
I suppose I should have said She instead of He, and I should not be surprised. Women are notorious for making sure someone is corrected. It is just so frustrating. This person wrote so much helpful information and after reading all that they had provided, this asshat thought to say…….Swagbucks isn’t instant? Really? Why even comment at all? You look so freaking inconsiderate. The age of entitlement……….ho hum. The planet is doomed.
Cash Crate – This site is pretty cool because you can get paid for doing a variety of simple tasks online. Just for signing up, they give you a free dollar. In addition to getting paid for simple tasks, there are also a lot of great ways to get coupons and cash back for purchases you might typically make. For example, you can sign up for a free trial of Stamps.com, and Cash Crate gives you $9.60. Although each individual task may be small, it adds up. This is a great place to “get your feet wet” with regard to making money online.
Hey Lonnie – I do think the recent algorithm change has had an impact on the site. Some people have noticed articles that were once top-ranking articles have moved to the 2nd or 3rd page on Google. Other articles were untouched. I know Google is specifically targeting “content farms,” so it’s now going to become extremely important to write high quality, unique content more than it ever was before.
More and more companies and startups especially are embracing remote work—where you use online collaboration and communication tools to do your work from wherever you want. And you don’t have to be a 20-something hotshot designer or coder to reap the benefits of working remotely. Many remote positions are for customer support positions or other customer-facing positions that don’t require specialized skill sets.
The revenue sharing aspect of do-follow sites like InfoBarrel really is awesome when you think about it. When I find a long-tail keyword that I like, but that I don’t think has quite enough traffic or high enough CPC to make it worth doing a whole niche website, I can still utilize it by writing up a quick 500-word article, and I can add a simple signature pointing toward my main blog.
Take surveys. You can earn $50 to $100 per month in cash and products by taking online surveys. Find survey sites by searching for “paid survey sites” online. Sign up for several survey sites to increase your chances of being selected for higher-paying surveys. Register with an email address, and check your email often so you can respond quickly to survey offers.
Re-selling web hosting will enable you to make money hosting your own client’s websites. Large hosting companies like HostGator allow you to white label their hosting services. You could start your own hosting business or, if you are a web designer, include hosting into your web design packages. And the best of it is the hosting companies take care of the hosting for you, so all you need to worry about is selling.
It’s one of the oldest and most proven ways to make money – buy low, sell high. The buy low part comes from searching garage sales, estate sales, and even thrift stores to find items that are in good condition (“gently used”) but selling well below what they would if they were brand-new. In this way, you might be able to acquire an item for $5, and later sell it for $50.
