Ask for a raise. If you’re unhappy with your compensation at your 9-5 job, asking for a raise is one way to beef up your bank account. Most employers offer an annual review of your work – which could be the perfect time to negotiate a higher salary or ask for better perks. If your employer doesn’t offer such an opportunity, it might be time to initiate a review yourself.
Not only will this multiply the money you’re bringing in in a serious way, but it protects you against any sudden changes in the market or in your business. Remember that old saying about putting all your eggs in one basket? A few hours a week committed to just one or two of the following opportunities will put you in a much stronger position to be financially safe and independent.

I actually don’t make much money doing this at the moment. I just started a couple of months ago and I only have 400 photos uploaded. But, if you build up a portfolio and upload photos consistently, you can make a good $500 a month a couple years down the road doing nothing each month. I only make $10 a month on Shuttershock right now, but I’m hoping by the time I leave Thailand I’ll have enough photos uploaded to be earning a decent amount. There’s tons of stock photo websites you can upload to, but Shutterstock is my favorite because they help you come up with the keywords to tag your photos with which is the most exhausting part of the process for me.
More and more companies and startups especially are embracing remote work—where you use online collaboration and communication tools to do your work from wherever you want. And you don’t have to be a 20-something hotshot designer or coder to reap the benefits of working remotely. Many remote positions are for customer support positions or other customer-facing positions that don’t require specialized skill sets.
Purchase items in bulk and resell them for profit – An example of this is purchasing a bulk order of car chargers for a newly released cell phone. You can usually find a bulk manufacturer in places like China or some other asian countries. You can buy them by the hundreds or thousands and basically pay under $1 for each one, then resell them on Ebay for several dollars. You can still keep it cheap, maybe $5 for an iPhone charger, and if you only paid a dollar for that you’re making a $4 profit.
Some of the best things in life are free and market researchers love to hand out new products in exchange for consumer feedback. If you like to try new products and have the opportunity to try them out for free, do some research and find the market research companies that offer products you desire to try. You can join campaigns and they will send the products or coupons to you to test them and provide feedback. You will generally have to fill out surveys and provide written reports based on your opinions. You will get to keep the products and they will sometimes even send you a monetary gift as an offer of thanks for doing the work.
